Tina Tobago is a dancer at Crazy Horse Paris… and an operating room nurse. We had a chat with this woman who resolutely assumes her double life with energy and charisma.

How did you come to join the famous Crazy Girls dance troupe, and why?

It was both a dream and a stroke of luck. When I was 12 or 13 years old, I saw a Christmas video of Crazy Horse Paris on television. I was instantly fascinated by the way the dancers moved, the vibe they gave off… At that age I was very sporty – I did 15 hours a week of rhythmic gymnastics, and I was a real tomboy! My feminine side was more interior, and when I saw that video, I knew that one day I would want to be a woman like those at Crazy Horse Paris.

When I was 21, I shared my dream with my partner, but I didn’t think anything would come of it. I felt that becoming a Crazy Girl was impossible, since I was a gymnast and they had training in dance or the performing arts. He nonetheless sent off my application, which came to nothing; I was disappointed but not surprised. A few years later I tried again, and this time I was offered an audition. Meanwhile I had got myself ready, I did a lot of dancing… and I joined the Crazy Girl troupe in April 2017!

How do you manage your double life as nurse and Crazy Girl?

As an operating room nurse, I can organize my time quite easily. I have my weekends off and I’m on duty three times a week, which gives me four consecutive days off. To start with I was a contract worker, so it was easy to accept jobs or not, but now I have a permanent contract so that requires more juggling.

It’s possible to successfully lead both lives simultaneously, as I like to be on the move: in the operating room I have to use my brain, and at Crazy Horse Paris I find expression in movement, through my body. They are complementary and that suits me perfectly.

What is your favorite scene, and why?

I love Jungle Fever and Lay Laser Lay. The second is the one I saw in the Christmas video when I was 13, and it was also my first solo act at Crazy Horse Paris. I like them for their slightly “wild” side, as well as their sensuality. In fact, I can’t really imagine myself playing the role of a sparkling, smiling woman; I need a rather dark form of energy to express myself through dancing, and in these scenes I can use that. The sensitivity and fragility that radiate from But I’m a good girl appeal to me enormously, but it isn’t necessarily easy for me to embody them.

In your opinion, what defines a Crazy Girl?

It takes time to become a Crazy Girl, and when you start out you don’t know what sort of Crazy Girl you’re going to become. What’s more, this persona is not fixed, it develops over the years. I would say that, for me, a Crazy Girl is at ease with herself, a confident, sensitive and sensual woman. She knows herself well enough to express her femininity, have fun with it, and radiate emotion that others can share.

Two women have been role models in my life, and have inspired me. My mother gave dancing lessons, and my grandmother was a nurse administrator. Today, I’m proud to embody both of them in my double life as Crazy Girl and nurse!

Crazy about Crazy

The iconic fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier is a frequent guest at 12, Avenue George V, as he is « crazy about Crazy, now and forever… Â».

Thanks to its rich artistic heritage, Crazy Horse Paris has an excellent reputation among creators, artists and designers.

The unique expertise of the legendary nightspot lies in the way it enhances women’s beauty through unusual, surprising creations.

It has already been ten years that the Crazy is under new management. To celebrate this anniversary, the fabled and illustrious Parisian cabaret has packed its bags and headed to the Sheraton Grande Walkerhill Theater in Seoul.

The Crazy Horse, acclaimed house of live creations for over 60 years, exports itself around the world. After Geneva, Warsaw, Montréal and Hong Kong, the Crazy dance troupe made a stopover in South Corea, where it will perform the “Forever Crazy” show. It will be presented on stage at the Sheraton Walkerhill Theater in Seoul.

A true culture shock for the Crazy Girls, who will show South Coreans what the French-touch, Crazy-Style, is all about.

« Forever Crazy » is a show created as a tribute to the avant-garde artist Alain Bernardin, the Crazy Horse founder and is made up of a collection of best-ofs from the historic repertoire of the legendary cabaret.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the change in management, the Parisian cabaret’s show is moving, as part of the international tour, for 6 months to Seoul.

A true culture shock for the Crazy Girls, who will show South Coreans what the French-touch, Crazy-Style, is all about.

Between tradition and renewal

During the show, the dancers of the famed cabaret located in the heart of the Golden triangle in Paris, will perform a blend of traditional numbers and new creations produced by Philippe Découflé, derived from the Désirs show, which made its debut in 2009. They will be performing the famed military march, « God Save Our Bareskin », official and unchanged opening act since 1989, or again the “Leçon d’Erotisme”, act performed by a voluptuous Crazy Girl on a red couch, in the shape of luscious red lips.

For seven years now, Crazy Horse Paris has been working closely with the "Souffle de Violette" initiative run by the EREEL endowment fund. A great example of “women helping women”, it’s the brainchild of Christine Salaun-Chevalier, Ereel Founder-President.

Souffle de Violette : feel like a woman again and get your life back

This initiative, administered by the EREEL Endowment Fund, works to support women affected by cancer for up to 3 years following recovery, in a non-hospital environment. 2,000 women from all over France are receiving support from a network of 200 volunteer professionals providing specially targeted help.

Among the services on offer are free chiropody, make-up tutorials, face and body treatments, assistance with returning to work, legal advice, healthy eating cookery classes, support for careers and much more… Each woman is free to choose which workshops she wants to do.

The aim of the programme and its workshops is to support cancer survivors who have often lost confidence in themselves as women and as members of society. Without fuss and in complete confidence.

Crazy Horse Paris, supporting Souffle de Violette

Crazy Horse Paris first got involved with Souffle de Violette back in 2011. As well as Souffle de Violette, the Ereel Endowment Fund supports a range of foundations and our very first contact came about when a young man suffering from myopathy expressed a wish to come to Crazy Horse Paris. He was hosted by our cabaret teams and enjoyed a wonderful evening, an occasion when strong links were also made with Christine Salaun-Chevalier.

Since then, the Crazy Girls and Souffle de Violette have worked together more and more, a fine example of women supporting women. The dancers were happy to commit to a series of events and photos with the "Violettes" to celebrate Pink October, including cookery demonstrations, a beauty party featuring “Crazy” makeup, and more.

For the women we support, spending time with the beautiful and friendly Crazy Girls is an invaluable experience that restores their confidence and helps them reveal and regain their own identity as women.

Crazy Horse Paris wigmaker, Raphaël Knafo, is also involved, supplying wigs, personalised haircare and advice for all the women on the programme.
The club and its artistes are proud to be hosting the annual Souffle de Violette gala evening, on Monday 26 March, with a performance of its current show Totally Crazy.

Troupe Crazy Horse By Rémi Desclaux

A love for stage and for Crazy Horse Paris

The new Crazy Girls are now realizing a beautiful dream: of joining the troupe of Crazy Horse Paris and becoming one of those legendary dancers, odes to femininity and freedom, who make the identity and fame of Crazy Horse Paris.

A demanding but fascinating learning experience

To be able to incarnate glamour and sensuality, Woman in her purest essence, there is a subtle balance between the innate and … lots of hard work. When it comes to beauty, the girls have it all. But now they need to learn how to become that quintessence of femininity that both represents and makes the identity of a Crazy Girl.

It is notably while rehearsing "U turn me on", the iconic finale of Crazy Horse Paris, used in the show "Totally Crazy", that the girls discover all the technicality and the intensity of the work required by the director Svetlana Kostantinova. And if the dance is an ode to femininity, the play of looks is also at the heart of what makes the dancers of Crazy Horse Paris unique.

Curves, movements, and winks: nothing is left to chance for transcending the woman into her emotions and her personality.

Make-up lesson: enhancing the face

Being a dancer at Crazy Horse means being a woman down to the tips of your eyelashes. If the hip sway and pace is Svetlana’s domain, it is the captain of the dancers Mika Do who accompanies the new recruits in their first Crazy make-up. The goal? A doll’s face, an intense look, and a strongly assertive personality.

In the expert hands of Mika Do, brushes, false eyelashes, eye shadow, and blushes are magic instruments that enhance the beauty of the two girls, transforming them into Crazy Girls, with doe eyes and red mouths.  And here they are, ready to bewitch the audience!

The Crazy Girls are on stage!

It is a Crazy Horse Paris tradition: the baptism of the stage name of the dancers takes place on the evening of their first public appearance. Bye-bye Daniela and Fleur, hello Tina Tobago and Kika Revolver! A moment full of emotion, and shared with the other dancers, which truly marks the entrance of the two recruits into the house.

The stage début, long-awaited, finally takes place on the same evening for the two young women. Somewhere between stress and euphoria, they experience the live stage, the costumes, the audience… the glamorous dream that is now a reality.

Discover the latest Crazy Girls to join the troupe!

The famed Crazy Horse Paris, following two separate auditions, has integrated seven new dancers into its acclaimed Crazy Girls dance troupe.

These new recruits needed to meet the stringent physical requirements set forth by Alain Bernardin, Crazy Horse Paris founder and great admirer of women and femininity, in 1951, so as to respect the tradition and spirit of this legendary venue.

Previously, the criteria for joining the troupe were extremely selective. Candidates should not be less than 1m68 and more than 1m72 in height in order to maintain visual harmony on stage and respect a one-third to two-thirds ratio between the length of their legs and their bust. The distance between the two tips of the breasts had to be 21 cm, and the distance between the navel and the pubis had to be 13 cm.

Today, this is nothing compared to the importance of having this little “that little something extra”, a touch of "crazy" and originality, as Alain Bernardin liked to say.

Danseuse Dekka Dance Crazy Horse

Ballet dance training required

The Crazy Horse particularly appreciates candidates with acting talent, which makes all the difference when performing the different acts of the show on the acclaimed stage.

The fortunate few who make the audition will receive 3 to 5 months training, during which they will learn how to become true Crazy Girls and then go on to captivate the public of not only the legendary Parisian cabaret, but also audiences at theaters around the world.
